Ukrainian journalists have received drone detectors from our company to enhance their safety while working on the front line
BlueBird Tech has donated five additional “Chuyka” drone detectors to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). The devices will be used by war correspondents working in combat zones and frontline regions.
This is already the second batch of devices provided to media professionals. The first five “Chuyka” detectors, which the manufacturer donated several months ago, are being actively used by Ukrainian and international journalists while working on the front line.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, drone detectors have become one of the essential safety tools for camera crews, correspondents, stringers, and documentary filmmakers covering Russia’s war against Ukraine directly from the field.
“At BlueBird Tech, it is important to us that Ukrainians and the world know about the bravery of Ukrainian defenders and the crimes committed by Russian occupiers. Proper protection is also essential for professional journalists working on the front line. We know that, despite all international norms and laws, the ‘PRESS’ sign often becomes a target for Russian FPV drones. That is why the ‘Chuyka’ drone detector helps media professionals identify danger in advance, react in time, and save lives,” the company stated.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine notes that the devices previously provided have already proven their effectiveness in field conditions. According to representatives of the NUJU’s Journalists’ Solidarity Centers, the detectors have repeatedly helped journalists leave dangerous areas in time or change their routes after detecting an aerial threat.
The additional five detectors will also be available through a free rental program for journalists traveling to high-risk areas on assignment. In addition, some of the devices are planned to be provided to journalists in regions that regularly come under attack by Russian drones, including the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
“The issue of early drone detection and the adaptation of safety protocols is one of the central topics of discussion. We are pleased to receive a new batch of five ‘Chuyka’ drone detectors. The Ukrainian-made devices provided by BlueBird Tech will be available for free use by media professionals through the Journalists’ Solidarity Centers in Kyiv and Sumy, and will also support the work of journalists and local producers in the Odesa region,” said Sergiy Tomilenko, Head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
Alongside the delivery of the new batch of devices, BlueBird Tech and the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine have prepared a mini-guide on the effective use of drone detectors.
The guide contains practical recommendations for journalists working in high-risk areas and explains the device’s operating features, as well as recommended action algorithms in case a threat is detected.
