Our Company’s Ukrainian UAV Receives Automatic Catapult Release and Improved Communication

27.07.2026

BlueBird Tech has upgraded the Bebradron fixed-wing UAV. The Ukrainian company’s engineers have implemented several solutions aimed at improving the drone’s reliability and making it easier to operate in field.

The key upgrades include a rotating mast mechanism and a wired connection for the ground control station.

The rotating mechanism allows operators to adjust the mast position and accurately point the antennas toward the UAV, creating optimal conditions for transmitting video, control signals, and telemetry. At the same time, the wired connection of the ground control station provides more stable communication and a higher-quality image on the operator’s terminal, even in environments with significant radio interference.

The company’s engineers also carried out a comprehensive optimization of the UAV. In particular, they improved the connectors, structural component mounts, and cable routing system. All changes are intended to improve operational performance and optimiяe the production process.

Another new feature is the automatic release system for the pneumatic catapult. After the automatic take-off mode is activated, the operator no longer needs to issue a separate command to release the catapult. The system launches the drone automatically at the appropriate moment. This simplifies the launch procedure and reduces the workload on the crew.

“In combat systems, details and small operational nuances often determine the outcome. We reviewed the entire system design in terms of reliability, manufacturability, and ease of maintenance. Everything, from cable placement to the mounting of individual components, was refined to ensure that the system performs reliably under demanding combat conditions,” BlueBird Tech engineers said.

The purpose of the upgrade was to bring the existing platform to the highest possible level of reliability for frontline operation.

How the Bebradron by BlueBird Tech Works

The Bebradron is a fixed-wing UAV designed to engage targets at distances beyond the operational range of most FPV drones. In its standard configuration, the system can carry a payload of 7.5 kg over a distance of 45 km.

The drone is launched using a pneumatic catapult and controlled by an operator. Thanks to its cruise flight mode, the UAV can continue carrying out its mission even under active electronic warfare conditions.

One of the key features of the Bebradron is its modular design. Depending on the mission, operators can adjust the balance between payload capacity and flight range, adapting the platform to specific operational requirements.
