“China prioritizes supplying the enemy”: defense industry representatives explain how Beijing is complicating Ukraine’s procurement of drone optics
Russia currently has a certain advantage in purchasing fiber optics for drones in China, despite the fact that Beijing has raised prices for such components for all customers. This was stated by BlueBird Tech Director Borys Budeianskyi in a detailed interview.
According to Budeianskyi, Russian manufacturers often have priority access to Chinese supplies, which helps them maintain high production rates.
“We see that China provides a certain priority to customers from the Russian Federation. Therefore, Russia receives certain components more quickly. But for us, this is a nuance rather than a problem,” notes Borys Budeianskyi.
At BlueBird Tech, it is emphasized that the Ukrainian defense-tech sector compensates for this advantage through flexibility and rapid adaptation to new battlefield challenges. In addition, manufacturers take these factors into account when sourcing necessary components.
Despite high competition for critical components, Ukrainian manufacturers continue to scale up production and seek alternative supply channels.
